It is clear the term non-negotiable is foreign to you, so I shall explain it one more time.

You will carry the marker I give to you, or I will do nothing for your brother. I am not Sandaime, nor am I the Toad Sage, and if you expect me to make the same choices they made, then you will be sadly mistaken.

[There's a long pause, tense, but after a moment Itachi laughs softly. It's a nice laugh, not mocking, but genuinely born from humor, even if it's self-derogation.]

In ten minutes, you will find a kunai for yourself, and a marker for your brother, as well. Keep the kunai with you at all times, Uchiha-san, or our agreement is ended. If things go sour, then you may use it. Place the marker somewhere secret, in or on something your brother carries with him always, and I will be able to find him. You must chose well, Uchiha-san...if he does not have the marker when I must retrieve him, I cannot do so. This cannot be stressed enough.

How do you intend to relay the information to me?

I understand Namikaze-san. I agreed to the terms. I shall not lose track of the kunai--either by accident or design--and I will make sure what I attach the marker to is never outside of Sasuke's possesion.

I will contact you when I can. If PCD conversations are not viable for any reason or the news is too urgent, I shall send a crow to you. Madara cannot watch everything I do, and my illusions are without flaw.

If it is a genjutsu I send, it will relay the information to you either with a scroll or directly to your mind.

If you need a way to contact me, do it publically and casually, as you have been until now. If it is something urgent that we must discuss privately, mention birds. I will find a way to be alone or able to communicate with you unmonitored.

I will keep an eye on such birds, then, lest I miss something vital. Use a scroll only when absolutely necessary. The less trace we leave to be discovered, even in ash, the better.

Of course. It would not do to have a sudden falling out for no reason at all, would it? Itachi-san, be careful. You and I both know that it is unlikely I can face Madara by myself, especially when I am in the dark as to what he has planned. If I am to protect your brother, and yourself, I need to know as much as you can possibly learn.

I know. I intend to erase this convertation as soon as we finish it. I have no desire to be caught, and I have been playing this game of subterfuge for long enough to know all the ways it could go wrong.

Unlikely? More like impossible, Namikaze-san. You are strong, but he is much stronger than I believe even you imagine. I shall provide you with as much information as I can, but keeping your people safe with it is your job, I can only give you what I learn.

For now he is waiting. He has the patience to observe and speculate. What he may decide to do with his observations is difficult to determine. My best guess is he may begin to recruit those of power. Or perhaps he may join them under some pretext or other. But these are mere speculations on what he might do.

When I have a better idea of his plans I will let you know.
